2019: North Carolina 28, Miami 25

In the second game of the Mack Brown 2.0 Era, and the first at Kenan Stadium, the Tar Heels put on a classic for the fans. While neither team was ranked in this matchup, it is one of the more electric atmospheres I have ever experienced in Kenan Stadium.

North Carolina got off to a quick start as they took a 17-3 lead in the first quarter with 4:04 remaining. Miami battled back, though, and scored a touchdown with 25 seconds remaining in the first half to cut the deficit to 17-13, setting up an eventful second half.

Miami scored a touchdown with 2:58 left in the third quarter to make it 20-19 with the PAT pending. However, the special teams unit came up with a blocked field goal to keep the Tar Heels out in front by a slim margin.

The fourth quarter was a defensive slugfest for the first 10 minutes, but Miami eventually was able to score the go-ahead touchdown with 4:38 remaining. Due to the blocked extra point earlier in the game, had to go for two and failed to convert, making the score 25-20 with 3:37 remaining and giving true freshman Sam Howell the ball.

Howell & Company immediately went to work and got to the Miami 49-yard line in just two plays. However, trouble ensued with back-to-back sacks, forcing a 4th and 17 with 2:55 to play. Howell then made an amazing throw to Rontavius Groves on a 20-yard out route to the sideline to keep the drive alive.

The Tar Heels would proceed to drive down to the Miami 10-yard line before Howell found Dazz Newsome in the corner of the endzone for the go-ahead touchdown with 1:01 remaining. Some people say it is one of the loudest moments in the history of Kenan Stadium. Carolina went for two and pushed the lead to 28-25.

Miami was able to get to the Carolina 32-yard line to set up a 49-yard game-tying field goal, but Bubba Baxa missed wide left, and the Tar Heels moved to 2-0 on the season.
