Even on their bye week, the North Carolina Tar Heels still made an appearance in primetime during the Notre Dame-Duke game on ABC Saturday night.
Coming out of a break and returning to action in the Notre Dame-Duke football game Saturday night, ABC opted to play “Carolina In My Mind” by James Taylor while showing Duke’s campus, and man, did the North Carolina Tar Heels social media timeline react appropriately.
Using James Taylor for your Duke game. Ok ESPN, you keep making “choices” as it pertains to your BBQ and your songs that don’t seem particularly informed.

Interesting musical selection by ESPN on the Notre Dame-Duke football game - the great James Taylor’s “Carolina In My Mind,” pretty much an unofficial anthem of the University of North Carolina. They should know better.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen the reaction online for commercial bump music that “Carolina in my Mind” during a Duke game just got on my timeline.

As noted on social media, it is pretty well known that the song is an alternative anthem of the North Carolina Tar Heels. Even while the UNC Football program is on a bye this week, the Tar Heels are still invading the National TV audience.
This is the second week in a row a North Carolina reference has happened on a nationally broadcast game that the Tar Heels were not part of. But this time was even better, with it happening just eight miles down the road.
Sorry, Duke… not really.
