The story of UNC football wide receiver Devontez ‘Tez’ Walker continues. Reports now say Walker will be eligible for one game, but how?

The story of Devontez ‘Tez’ Walker continues. Most recently, we learned that a Minnesota two-time transfer had been granted a waiver for eligibility. Now Walker may be eligible for a bowl game?

First reported by Jamie Shaw with On3 Sports, it appears that UNC football wide receiver Tez Walker will be eligible to play this season for the Tar Heels after all… however, it may be limited to just one game. The question then becomes, how is this possible?

According to Shaw, the NCAA multi-time transfer rule that has now been implemented across the country, causing an uproar of disapproval from several schools, including the UNC football program, says that transfers must be enrolled at their current schools for two semesters. As we know, Walker enrolled at North Carolina on January 9th in time for the spring semester.

Despite being ruled ineligible for this season, to our knowledge, Walker is still taking classes and enrolled in Chapel Hill for the fall semester. This means when the fall semester concludes on Wednesday, December 6th, he will have completed two full semesters at his current school.

The UNC football program has positioned itself tremendously for a bowl game with a 4-0 start, the best start since 1997. Obviously, there is still a long way to go, but the college football bowl season doesn’t begin until mid-December, and the Tar Heels hope to be playing around New Year’s Day. If that is the case, Walker would be eligible for that bowl game.

Unfortunately for the Tar Heels, it would be nice if classes ended one week earlier, making him eligible for the ACC Championship game on December 2nd, if, of course, the Tar Heels qualify for an appearance in Charlotte.
