We are previewing the upcoming week for North Carolina Tar Heels Athletics from September 24, 2023, through October 1, 2023.

It’s a so-called light week for North Carolina Tar Heels Athletics, with no games during the week and a weekend with games from out-of-season sports. Let’s get into it!

Field Hockey – Erin Matson has started 7-1 in her first season as the Tar Heels head coach, and they are 2-0 in conference play. North Carolina is ranked No. 4 in the country, with its only loss coming to No. 5 Iowa early in the season. This week, they will travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to face 8-2 Saint Joseph’s on Sunday, October 1st, at 1:00 PM.

Men’s Soccer – The Tar Heels remained undefeated over the weekend with a 2-1 victory over No. 11 ranked Duke. They are now 4-0-3 and 1-0-2 in conference play. North Carolina will now travel to Pittsburgh to face the Panthers in conference play on Friday, September 29th. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM, and the game can be found on ACC Network Extra.

Women’s Soccer – Anson Dorrance’s team returned to the top this past week reaching No. 1 in the National Rankings with their 7-0-4 record against the toughest schedule in the country. Last week, they picked up a 1-0 road win over No. 22 Virginia before coming home for a dramatic 3-3 tie with No. 3 Florida State on Sunday. The matchup with the Seminoles could likely be a preview of the College Cup Final a few months from now. Next up will be rival NC State when the Tar Heels travel to Raleigh on Saturday, September 30th, for a 7:00 PM kickoff. The matchup is scheduled to be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

Volleyball – The Tar Heels picked up their first ACC win on the season last week with a 3-0 sweep of Virginia. They dropped to 1-1 in conference action when No. 8 Pittsburgh came to Chapel Hill and provided a tough test for the Tar Heels. This week, North Carolina will travel south to the state of Florida for two ACC matchups. On Friday, September 29th, they will face 8-6 Florida State at 6:30 PM. After the game with the Seminoles, they will head further south to Coral Gables to face 8-4 Miami on Sunday, October 1st, at 1:00 PM. Both games will be on ACC Network Extra.
