North Carolina Tar Heels Week Preview: Sept 18 – Sept 24

We are previewing the upcoming week for North Carolina Tar Heels Athletics from September 18, 2023, through September 24, 2023.

Field Hockey – Coming off their first ACC win under new head coach Erin Matson, the Tar Heels will enter this week with a 5-1 overall record and on a four-game win streak. North Carolina will travel to 3-2 Wake Forest on Friday, September 22nd at 5:00 PM. The Tar Heels will return home on Sunday, September 24th, to host Appalachian State in non-conference action at noon. Both games can be found on ACC Network Extra.

Football – The North Carolina Tar Heels moved to 3-0 this week for the fourth time in the past five seasons under head coach Mack Brown with their 31-13 win over Minnesota. Wide receiver Nate McCollum was a bright spot for the Tar Heels on the offensive side of the ball. Conference play will begin next for North Carolina, as they will travel to Pittsburgh to face the 1-2 Panthers on Saturday night, September 23rd. The Tar Heels will be looking to start 4-0 for the first time since 1997. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 PM and can be found on ACC Network.

Women’s Golf – After spending the past weekend in East Lansing, the Tar Heels will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, for the Mason Rudolph Championship. The event is a three-day event beginning on Friday, September 22nd, and will be held at Vanderbilt Legends Course.

Men’s Soccer – The Tar Heels enter the week 2-0-3 on the season and have two upcoming games this week after tying Notre Dame over the previous weekend. North Carolina will welcome non-conference opponent UNC-Wilmington to Dorrance Field on Tuesday, September 19th, for a 7:00 PM kickoff. Following the game with the Seahawks, the Tar Heels will stay at home for a matchup with rival Duke on Saturday, September 23rd at 7:00 PM. Both games can be found on ACC Network Extra.

Women’s Soccer – The Tar Heels enter the week ranked as the No. 2 team in the country and got off to a 1-0 start in ACC play after its 1-0 win at Virginia Tech last week. Conference play continues this week with two tough top-25 matchups. The first consists of hitting the road to travel to No. 20 Virginia, on Thursday, September 21st, at 7:00 PM. The Tar Heels will then come home to face No. 4 Florida State on Sunday, September 24th, at 12:00 PM. The game versus the Cavaliers will be on ACC Network Extra, while the game against the Seminoles will be on ESPNU.

Men’s Tennis – Fall tournaments will continue for the Tar Heels Men’s Tennis team this weekend with the Tom Chewning Fall Invitational. North Carolina traveled to South Carolina for the South Carolina Ranked +1 event last weekend and had individuals win two singles matches. This weekend’s event will take place at the Chewning Tennis Center and be hosted Friday, September 22nd through Sunday, September 24th.

Women’s Tennis – After hosting the Kitty Harrison Invitational in Chapel Hill and having two individuals win their respective singles bracket, the Tar Heels will be traveling to rival NC State for the Wolfpack Invitational. The Wolfpack Invitational is scheduled for Thursday, September 21st through Sunday, September 24th.

Volleyball – The Tar Heels bounced back from a 0-2 week the week before with a 2-0 week against Santa Clara and Coastal Carolina last week. They will look to keep that momentum going into the upcoming week with two conference matchups, both in Carmichael Arena. Virginia will come to Chapel Hill on Friday, September 22nd, for a 6:00 PM game, and the Pittsburgh Panthers will be in town on Sunday, September 24th, with a 1:00 PM game scheduled. Both games will be on ACC Network Extra.
