The UNC Football program picked up an impressive win against Minnesota in Week Three. How did the media view the Tar Heels victory?

The UNC football program is off to a 3-0 start for the third time in the last four seasons. It’s arguably against the toughest schedule this year to start the season in some time for the Tar Heels. There is no question that North Carolina has been battle-tested in every way possible, and all three wins have come in various ways.

After its week two double-overtime win over Appalachian State, UNC football lost some of the respect they earned in week one from the media in the Associated Press Poll as they fell from No. 17 to No. 20.  So how did the media react to the impressive win over Minnesota?

As expected, the Tar Heels earned back some of the respect they had previously lost with the dominant win over the Big Ten Gophers. The Tar Heels are No. 17 in this week’s AP Poll. In the 31-13 win, North Carolina showed they are able to adjust when things aren’t going their way (like not being able to establish the run game) and find other ways to win. The 18-point victory wasn’t nearly as close as it may have seemed, as the UNC football program was in full control from the game’s first drive.

While they missed out on several opportunities and didn’t play the best they could have, it was still plenty good enough for a comfortable victory to wrap up this portion of the non-conference schedule (with one more non-conference game on the schedule in November against FCS Campbell) before heading into ACC Play next week. North Carolina is also ranked No. 17 in the latest Coaches Poll.

The No. 17-ranked Tar Heels will travel to 1-2 Pittsburgh next Saturday for their first true road test of the season. Kick-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM on the ACC Network.
