The UNC Football program has had an individual earn National honors for the second consecutive week of the 2023 college football season.

UNC Football sophomore running back Omarion Hampton stepped up in a big way for the Tar Heels on Saturday evening versus Appalachian State. With Carolina down its first-string running back in British Brooks, Hampton became the lead back for the Tar Heels. As a result of his impressive performance, Hampton has earned National recognition.

Hampton was named the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week for his 200-plus-yard performance against the Mountaineers. This is Hampton’s third award for his performance this week, as he was also named the UNC Football Offensive Player of the Game and the ACC Running Back of the Week.

This is the second consecutive week that a UNC football player has won a National Player of the Week honor, as last week, Kaimon Rucker won the Bednarik Award Player of the Week and the Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week. With performances like this on a weekly basis, the Tar Heels have a chance to reach their ceiling in 2023 and meet all expectations.

The Doak Walker Award is awarded annually to the nation’s best running back while also awarding weekly honors to the best running back of the week. To learn more about the Doak Walker Award, please click here.
