The UNC Athletics Department had two Olympic sport athletes perform at a high level in the past week to earn weekly ACC Honors.

We are officially in full swing mode of the fall UNC Athletics schedule, and with that comes top performances that earn weekly ACC Honors. Two Tar Heels had notable weeks that earned them the ACC Players of the Week for their respective sports.

Freshman Aiden Neal made his college debut on Friday, September 1st, at Frank Liske Park at the Charlotte Open. Neal completed the 5K with a time of 14:58.2 and was the first freshman to finish in the field. The Tar Heels won the meet as a team. The next meet will be on September 15th at WakeMed Soccer Park Cross Country Course.

On the other hand, UNC athletics also had senior field hockey player Romea Riccardo win ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Riccardo was part of a defensive effort that helped the Tar Heels only allow one goal across two games in the ACC/Ivy League Challenge last weekend, including holding No. 10 Princeton to just five total shots and winning the game 2-1.

Riccardo also was credited with the assist in the game versus Penn, which the Tar Heels won 4-0. Carolina will travel to Old Dominion on Sunday, September 10th, for their next matchup.
