The UNC Football program was ranked in the latest Associated Press Poll after its week two victory over Appalachian State.
The UNC Football program defeated Appalachian State 40-34 on Saturday in a double-overtime, dramatic ending at Kenan Stadium on Saturday evening to wrap up week two of college football. As a result, the Tar Heels move to 2-0 for the fourth time in the last five years since Mack Brown returned to Chapel Hill.
North Carolina entered Saturday’s game against the Mountaineers ranked No. 17 in the Associated Press Poll. After beginning the season ranked No. 21, the Tar Heels were elevated four spots after its week one 31-17 win over South Carolina. Following the home win over Appalachian State, where does the UNC football program stand in the AP Poll heading into week three?

After a not-so-great performance against the in-state Mountaineers, the Tar Heels fell in the rankings this week among the media. Carolina will enter week three ranked No. 20 in the most recent Associated Press poll. It was clear that needing two overtime periods to beat Appalachian State wasn’t something that impressed the perception of the Tar Heels.
The No. 20-ranked Tar Heels will face Big Ten foe Minnesota next Saturday, September 16th, at 3:30 in Kenan Stadium for another non-conference home game. The Golden Gophers received three votes in the poll this week, coming in at 34th in most votes received. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Golden Gophers and the UNC football program in history.
