Former UNC Football wide receiver Dyami Brown is expected to see an increased role with the Washington Commanders this season.

Former UNC football wide receiver Dyami Brown is entering his third season in the National Football League with the Washington Commanders. Brown hopes to have a breakout season in year three after being a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Luckily for Brown, his quarterback, Sam Howell, is also his former college teammate, and the chemistry between the two is already there.

Howell, of course, was named the starter for the Washington Commanders for the 2023 NFL Season during the month of August. It has recently been reported that Brown has been making a name for himself among the Commanders’ wide receivers and could see more targets and playing time this season than his first two seasons in the league.

According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, he believes that Brown has worked his way into a valuable role for the upcoming season. Graziano’s reasoning for Brown is logical and makes sense.

"(Terry) McLaurin suffered a toe injury in the final preseason game that could linger into the season, opening up opportunities for others further down the Washington depth chart. The Commanders have been impressed with the improvements Brown has show in this offseason, and they like his ability to make contested catches and win in crowded parts of the field."

With Brown’s offseason improvements and the injury to McLaurin, Brown could see an increase in volume, especially early on. In addition to McLaurin, the Commanders wide receiver core also consists of Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel. Dotson was Washington’s first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

When Brown has made catches, he has racked up big yardage, averaging 18.1 yards per catch in his career, and 28.6 yards per catch on five catches in 2022. Will former UNC football teammate Sam Howell look to get Brown more involved in 2023? The Commanders kickoff the 2023 season on Sunday, September 10 against the Arizona Cardinals.
