UNC Men’s Golf: Tar Heels make impact at Walker Cup
By Jordan Falls
The UNC Men’s Golf program had three Tar Heels make a major impact at the Walker Cup for the United States of America over the weekend.
The Walker Cup is held every other year in September. In the 2023 version of the Walker Cup held at Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland, the UNC Men’s Golf program had three members compete for the United States of America team.
David Ford, Austin Greaser, and Dylan Menante all competed in the Walker Cup this past weekend. The Walker Cup is played by the world’s leading amateur male players between the countries of Ireland, Great Britain, and the United States.
The three Tar Heels combined for two wins and a draw in the singles match on Sunday for the Walker Cup that helped the United States come from behind for a 14.5-11.5 win.
The 2023 Walker Cup victory for the United States is their fourth straight win and gives the red, white, and blue a 39-9-1 all-time record in the historic match. The three UNC men’s golf players who competed in the Walker Cup became the sixth, seventh, and eighth Tar Heels to compete in the event.
A fun fact for UNC Men’s Golf: When a Tar Heel competes in the Walker Cup, the United States is 9-0 all-time. This is the first time that UNC has had a player in the event since 1991. The Tar Heels will begin the 2023-2024 season ranked as the No. 1 team in the country.
