UNC Women’s Soccer: King wins ACC Defensive Player of Week
By Jordan Falls
For the third consecutive week this season, a UNC Women’s Soccer player has earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Last week, senior Sam Meza won the ACC Defensive Player of the Week award after an impressive week for the UNC Women’s Soccer program. The week prior to that, freshman Savy King won the ACC Defensive Player of the Week. King has now picked up her second Defensive Player of the Week award in three weeks.
The UNC Women’s Soccer program owns all three Defensive Player of the Week honors for the ACC this season. King has been impactful in the Tar Heel defensive backfield, helping hold opponents shotless during the first half.
King was a huge part of a Carolina defense that held No. 10-ranked Arkansas to ten total shots, which powered the Tar Heels to a 3-1 victory over the Razorbacks. Through six games this season, UNC Women’s Soccer has only allowed two total goals this season as they head into the toughest portion of their non-conference schedule.
Carolina will face No. 13-ranked South Carolina and No. 5-ranked Alabama this upcoming week. With continued performances like this from King, the Tar Heels will be able to compete with anyone in the country for a chance at another National Championship.
