The UNC football program has seen mass support of wide receiver Devontez ‘Tez’ Walker, but there is also support from teammates within the program.

There has been an influx of support for UNC football wide receiver Devontez ‘Tez’ Walker and his eligibility case against the NCAA. From national media and talking heads to celebrities, Walker has as much support as possible in this situation. Walker was ruled out for the season opener against South Carolina.

While that support outside the program is great, sometimes the support that means the most is from within and your own teammates. After their 31-17 win over South Carolina in Charlotte on Saturday night, his own quarterback spoke with the media while wearing a Tez Walker jersey.

Of course, Maye is as big a fan as any of Walker, his projected No. 1 wide receiver for the 2023 season. There is no question that UNC football fans are dying to see what Maye and Walker can do if the duo gets the opportunity to play together this season.

While Maye didn’t get asked directly about Walker’s situation in his post-game interview, he certainly is bringing as much exposure to the situation as he can by supporting his Tar Heel teammate. The ESPN College GameDay crew also covered Walker’s situation briefly during the Saturday morning show.

During the game broadcast, televised nationally on ABC, commentators Greg McElroy and Sean McDonough brought up Walker to the audience at home.

McElroy had this to say:

"It’s absolutely ridiculous that the NCAA is digging in. They need to do the right thing."

McDonough followed it up by adding this:

"(NCAA president Charlie Baker) needs to end nonsense like this."

Walker’s case is supposed to be heard next Thursday by another NCAA review committee to determine his eligibility for the rest of the 2023 season.
