We are previewing the upcoming week for North Carolina Tar Heels Athletics from September 4, 2023, through September 10, 2023.

Field Hockey – Erin Matson’s squad will carry a 3-1 record this week as the Tar Heels have a week off between games. After sweeping the ACC-Ivy League challenge with 4-0 and 2-1 wins over Penn and Princeton, respectively, Carolina will head to the Commonwealth-State next weekend to face Old Dominion. The Tar Heels and the Monarchs will play on Sunday, September 10th, at 12:00 PM.

Football – Well, that was fun Saturday night, huh? You can read all about the 31-17 win over South Carolina here (and trust me, there’s PLENTY of good content). After an impressive defensive performance, it is time for the Tar Heels to build off that momentum and continue to put consecutive good outings together. Carolina will host Appalachian State in their home opener on Saturday, September 9th. The Mountaineers beat Gardner-Webb 45-24 in their opener. The Tar Heels and Mountaineers will kick off at 5:15 PM on the ACC Network.

Men’s Soccer – The Tar Heels are 1-0-1 after having its game against American canceled and earning a 2-1 victory at East Tennessee State over the weekend. Carolina will play at VCU on Labor Day to start their week. The game versus the Rams will begin at 7:00 PM and can be viewed on ESPN+. Later in the week, Carolina will return to Virginia to play their first ACC game of the season when they play Virginia Tech on Friday, September 9th at 7:00 PM.

Women’s Soccer – Can you say big week? The No. 4 Tar Heels beat No. 8 Arkansas 3-1 in Chapel Hill on Sunday without one of their star players, as Sam Meza was out for the game. So, an easy schedule must be coming after facing a top-10 opponent? Not so fast. Carolina will travel to No. 13 South Carolina on Thursday, September 7th, for a 7:00 PM matchup. Then, they will travel to Tuscaloosa for a matchup with No. 5 Alabama on Sunday, September 10th at 7:00 PM (ET). Both games can be watched on ESPNU.

Volleyball – After a 4-1 start in the Mike Schall era, the Tar Heels will head to Big Ten country for two games this week. On Friday, September 8th, Carolina will play at Michigan at 7:00 PM. Following the Wolverines matchup, they will head to East Lansing to play Michigan State. The Tar Heels and Spartans will play on Sunday, September 10th, at 1:00 PM. Both games will be broadcast on Big Ten Network Plus.
