UNC Football: Myles Dorn waived by Miami Dolphins
Former UNC Football standout defensive back Myles Dorn has been placed on waivers by the Dolphins with an injury designation.
Myles Dorn, a former UNC football standout, has been waived with an injury designation by the Miami Dolphins. The news was reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.
The Dolphins made the move to make room for the free-agent signing of former XFL linebacker AJ Johnson. If he passes through waivers, Dorn can return to the Dolphins as part of their practice squad, but it’s also possible that he’ll be looking for his fourth NFL team
Dorn appeared in two games with the Dolphins this preseason where he recorded five tackles, one of which was a tackle for a loss against the Atlanta Falcons.
The former UNC football standout came into the league after four seasons in Chapel Hill. He was signed as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings and played two seasons with them until he was released last season.
At the beginning of the offseason, Dorn signed with the Carolina Panthers but was soon released before he could play a game. Shortly after being released, the Dolphins signed him, as he appeared in two preseason games before eventually getting released.
During his time with the Tar Heels, Dorn shined and soon became a household name for fans. He recorded 240 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, six interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble during the entirety of his collegiate career. Although he’s been with a few NFL teams, Dorn has yet to take a single defensive snap during the regular season.
At this point, it would be safe to say that if he gets a chance with a new team, Dorn will more than likely be a special-teams staple. Other leagues like the XFL and CFL are not out of the picture either as possible options for Dorn, who may look at that route if NFL opportunities aren’t available.
