The UNC Women’s Soccer program will kick off the 2023 season and the 2023-2024 UNC Athletic season at No. 10 Penn State tonight.

Ahhhhh… you smell that? Fall is in the air and with it, another 2023-2024 UNC athletic season is among us! That means college sports are officially back after a long summer. The UNC Women’s Soccer program will kick things off for the Tar Heels as they open their 2023 season at No. 10 Penn State tonight in University Park, Pennsylvania.

The Tar Heels are ranked as the No. 2 team in the country and were the 2022 National Runner-up. They will face the toughest schedule in the country, mostly because the ACC is truly “the conference” for women’s soccer with seven teams ranked in the top 25 (and 5 in the top 6!). However, veteran head coach Anson Dorrance has also scheduled heavily in the non-conference portion, and it starts with No. 10 Penn State tonight.

The Tar Heels and Nittany Lions have faced each other a total of eight times, with the Tar Heels leading the series 6-2. As always with the UNC women’s soccer program, there are high expectations this season, and having a tough schedule isn’t making them shy away from those.

You can catch the Tar Heels season opener on the Big Ten Network tonight at 7:00 PM. Visit www.goheels.com for more “things to know” regarding the 2023 UNC Women’s Soccer team.
