Former UNC basketball player Donald Williams has joined the coaching staff of another former Tar Heel at Vanderbilt University.

Former UNC basketball player, and current Vanderbilt head basketball coach, Jerry Stackhouse has made some additions to his coaching staff for the upcoming 2023-2024 college basketball season. One of those moves included hiring a former Tar Heel.

Donald Williams is now the Director of Player Personnel for the Vanderbilt Commodores. Williams has previously been the head coach at the high school level for boys’ basketball at Northwood High School and the girls’ basketball coach at Raleigh Charter High School, St. Mary’s High School, and Wakefield High School.

Williams was also the head coach men’s basketball coach at Denmark Technical Community College. Here is what Stackhouse had to say about the hiring of Williams:

"Donald Williams is going to be an impactful addition to our basketball program. He is an extremely accomplished player and has had a successful coaching career at both the high school and grassroots levels. As an NCAA national champion, Final Four Most Outstanding Player, and former professional, Donald has a unique and valuable perspective. Those experiences are aligned with the goals of our student-athletes and I am excited to see him share his knowledge and mentor throughout our program."

Stackhouse and Williams were teammates in Chapel Hill, as now the duo will pair up in a coaching capacity with the goal of winning a national championship in mind. This goes to show that the connections built through the UNC basketball program can lead to opportunities even after their time on the court as an athlete comes to a close.
