The UNC Women’s Soccer program has found itself at the top of the national pre-season rankings once again for the upcoming 2023 season.

After about a month and a half off for me from Keeping It Heel with life events going on, I’m back Tar Heel Nation and ready to get the 2023-2024 season started!

As always, Anson Dorrance has his dominant UNC women’s soccer program earning national pre-season ranking honors, coming in at No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches’ Top 25.

After coming so close to winning another National Championship last season, the Tar Heels are set to face the toughest schedule in the country in 2023. In the non-conference portion of the schedule, they will travel to No. 7 Alabama, No. 10 Penn State, and No. 12 South Carolina while facing No. 8 Arkansas and No. 22 Southern California at home.

The ACC is once again stacked with top talent, seeing seven teams ranked in the preseason top 25 polls. Dorrance’s program will travel to No. 4 Duke and No. 5 Virginia and welcome No. 3 Notre Dame and No 6. Florida State to Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill.

The only top 25 teams in the ACC the Tar Heels aren’t scheduled to face are No. 14 Pittsburgh and No. 25 Clemson. In total, the UNC Women’s Soccer program will face seven of the top ten ranked preseason teams in the nation, with one of those teams being themselves.

The No. 1 team in the pre-season is defending National Champion UCLA who beat the Tar Heels 3-2 in double overtime in the NCAA Championship game last season.

UNC will have two exhibition matches against College of Charleston and East Carolina on August 7th and 12th respectively prior to officially kicking off the season on August 17th at Penn State.
