Games time and TV Network information regarding the UNC Football program’s first three games of the 2023 season was released Wednesday afternoon.

We’re officially under the 100-day countdown until the UNC football season begins and the excitement surrounding the program will build up over the next three months. On Wednesday afternoon, the official Twitter account of UNC football announced the game times and TV networks for the season’s first three games.

The season’s first game against South Carolina is exciting regardless of game time and network. However, a 7:30 PM kick on ABC is the perfect primetime slot for this game and will be one all UNC football fans will love. It will be a great atmosphere in Charlotte and a great way to kick off the 2023 season that will have plenty of build-up to it.

There is an assumption that with the South Carolina-North Carolina game being on ABC and in the primetime TV slot, it could be a game that College GameDay visits for the season’s opening weekend.

The Tar Heels have been part of a College GameDay game twice in program history: 2010 vs LSU in the Chick-Fil-A kickoff game and 1997 vs Florida State, famously known as Judgement Day. The Tar Heels lost both games, 30-24 and 20-3 respectively.

The first home game of the 2023 season will see the Tar Heels kicking off at 5:15 PM against in-state opponent Appalachian State. The Tar Heels and Mountaineers played a classic in 2022 that was back and forth the entire game, including a fourth quarter that saw 62 combined points and a 63-61 Carolina victory.

It will be Appalachian State’s second visit to Chapel Hill in the Mack Brown era. The Mountaineers beat the Tar Heels 34-31 in 2019 when they blocked a Noah Ruggles field goal that would’ve tied the game at the end of regulation.

The second home game will be against Minnesota at 3:30 PM on another National TV network, either ESPN or ESPN2. The game is part of a home-and-home series that was scheduled for 2023 and 2024. It will be the first time the Tar Heels and Golden Gophers have ever met on the gridiron. Carolina will travel to Minneapolis next year to complete the home-and-home.
