The domination of the UNC Women’s Tennis program continued for one more weekend with an all-UNC National Championship lining up on Saturday.

If you thought the UNC Women’s Tennis season and list of accomplishments for 2022-2023 ended last weekend with their team’s National Championship well… you would be wrong. The doubles National Championship began on Tuesday, May 23, and continued through today, May 27.

To no one’s surprise, the 2023 team National Champions, North Carolina Tar Heels, sent two doubles teams to the NCAA Tournament, a 32-team, single-elimination format. Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig were on one side of the bracket, with Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty on the other side.

Both duos pulled upsets to advance in their respective brackets. Crawley/Tanguilig upset the No. 1 overall seed on Tuesday to go to the NCAA Quarterfinal Round. At the same time, Brantmeier/Scotty defeated the No. 2 seed on Thursday in the Quarterfinal round to advance to the Semifinals.

Both UNC Women’s Tennis doubles teams advanced to the National Championship to create an all-North Carolina final.

What a conflict for UNC Women’s Tennis and all Tar Heel fans. How do you even choose who to cheer for in a National Championship where both opponents are on your favorite team? Nonetheless, the accolades continued to add up for the program and the university this weekend.

Crawley/Tanguilig got the best of their Tar Heel teammates for the National Championship with a 6-1, 2-6, 11-9 victory.

Can you have a more successful season than the one that the 2022-2023 UNC Women’s Tennis team accomplished?

  • 35-1 overall record
  • ACC Regular Season Champions
  • 2023 Team National Champions
  • 2023 ITA Indoor National Champions
  • 2023 Doubles National Champions
  • 2023 Doubles Runner-Up

The UNC Women’s Tennis program just continued to validate the reason that Chapel Hill is the home of the University of National Champions this season.

Michael Koh with WCHL points out that the program had a great season, and Fiona Crawley had an impressive one herself.

In a separate tweet, Koh also points out that Crawley only lost two sets across seventeen matches. That’s very impressive for the junior Tar Heel. Congrats once again to the 2023 UNC Women’s Tennis team and to the doubles duo of Crawley/Tanguilig on their doubles National Championship.
