North Carolina Tar Heels: Jumpman NASCAR set to make debut
By Jordan Falls
North Carolina Tar Heels Athletics will have a part in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend with a Jumpman-inspired race car.
If you are unaware, former UNC basketball player Michael Jordan is the majority owner of the NASCAR race team 23XI Racing with current NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin as the minority owner.
The Toyota race team consists of three cars, No. 23, No. 45, and No. 67. The current drivers of those cars are Bubba Wallace, Tyler Reddick, and Travis Pastrana, respectively.
The NASCAR race on Memorial Day weekend is historically held in Charlotte, North Carolina at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the annual Coca-Cola 600 and the 23XI Racing team is debuting a new paint scheme for one of its cars this weekend inspired by the GOAT himself that all North Carolina Tar Heels fans are going to enjoy seeing on the track.
The paint scheme is absolutely beautiful. The color is Pantone inspired by the actual Carolina blue color from UNC athletics’ style guide with the Jumpman Jordan logo on the hood and down the side of the vehicle of the No. 45 car that Tyler Reddick will be driving.
The Coca-Cola 600 is on FOX on Sunday, May 28th at 6:00 PM. Once the sun goes down, that No. 45 car is going to stand out under the lights on the race track. The only thing that it feels like the 23XI Racing design team missed out on for this paint scheme is adding a touch of argyle to the paint scheme to incorporate more North Carolina into the color scheme other than just having the Carolina blue.
We could also make a point that they should’ve chosen Bubba Wallace’s No. 23 for the paint scheme since that’s the number that Jordan is most well-known for wearing during his career, even though he did wear No. 45 as well.
Nonetheless, we can’t wait to see this car and for the North Carolina Tar Heels to get the recognition it deserves under the lights on Memorial Day Weekend at the Coca-Cola 600.
