Following a recent interview, a potential UNC basketball recruit is nearing a decision regarding committing and reclassification.

A potential UNC basketball recruit, who could be committing to the Tar Heels, was recently interviewed regarding his future announcement plans as well as his plans revolving around reclassification.

Jarin Stevenson, a six-foot-ten five-star prospect from Pittsboro, North Carolina is one of the highly sought-after recruits in the Class of 2024. He is the no. 1 power forward in the country and no. 12 overall recruit in the country. While he is one of the top recruits in the Class of 2024, there is much speculation revolving around his recruitment and rather or not he will stay in the Class of 2024 or reclassify.

Most recently, Inside Carolina interviewed Stevenson regarding several of his decisions that have to be made in the next several weeks. In his interview, Stevenson was asked if he would be back at Seaforth (his current high school), next season. His answer points towards him reclassifying:

"Right now I’m still deciding. It’s not 100% sure. There’s still a chance of me reclassing up, so I’m still deciding that."

Another main focus that UNC basketball fans will enjoy is that Stevenson was asked about a timeline for a decision and he gave a pretty solid answer.

"By the end of the school year, I’ll probably make a decision, which is June 9. That’s the end of my school year, so that’s the timeline right now."

While that still isn’t as soon as some UNC basketball fans would like (because we’re impatient… of course), that would be ideal for Stevenson to reclassify and get enrolled for UNC’s second summer session which begins on June 26th.

Stevenson has taken official visits to Virginia, Georgetown, Missouri, and Alabama. While he has yet to take an official visit to Carolina, it should be noted that Pittsboro is less than twenty miles from Chapel Hill and Stevenson is most likely fully aware of UNC’s campus and everything that he would see on an official visit.

The UNC basketball roster currently has three open scholarships for the 2023-2024 season and they are expected to fill one of those with the reclassification of Elliot Cadeau. Could Hubert Davis fill his roster with two reclassifications from 2024 recruits?
