A recap of results from the previous week in North Carolina Tar Heels Athletics for May 8, 2023, thru May 14, 2023.

Baseball – What a week for the Diamond Heels! The Tar Heels swept the week with a 4-0 record, including a drubbing of rival NC State outscoring the Wolfpack 30-13, and without the first inning of game one, it would’ve been 30-8.  Before the weekend series against NC State, Carolina faced Gardner-Webb for their mid-week game and survived a closely contested game with the Bulldogs.

Softball – The Tar Heels saw their season come to an end in the ACC Tournament as they lost to Clemson in extra innings on a wild pitch that the Tigers scored the winning run on. Carolina finishes the season with a 26-28 record and will look toward the 2024 season.

Women’s Lacrosse – The Tar Heels started NCAA Tournament play with a 16-5 win over Sacred Heart on Friday in the First Round. Carolina then spent their Mother’s Day in the Second Round facing off with Richmond and the Spiders came ready to play in Chapel Hill.

Carolina started slow and trailed the upset-minded Spiders 8-7 at the half. Carolina finally took the lead for good in the third quarter with 2:22 remaining on a goal from Sophia DiCenso to give the Tar Heels a 12-11 lead and propel UNC to a 16-12 win.

Men’s Tennis – The no. 16 seed Tar Heels traveled to Austin, Texas to face the no. 1 overall seed Texas Longhorns this weekend in the round of 16 and looking to keep their NCAA tournament run going. However, the Longhorns had other plans in mind and were not going to see their season end at home. After a lengthy five-hour weather delay, Texas beat the Tar Heels 4-0.

Women’s Tennis – The top-ranked Tar Heels got off to a slow start in the round of 16 match versus no. 16 Florida as the Gators took a 1-0 lead against Carolina by taking the doubles point. Carolina answered in the singles matches by taking four consecutive matches to earn the 4-1 win to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinal Round in Orlando, Florida.
