UNC Football: Zion Ferguson sets official visit date
By Jordan Falls
Zion Ferguson, a four-star cornerback in the Class of 2024, has set a date for an official visit with the UNC Football program.
Zion Ferguson announced on his Twitter page yesterday that he would be taking an official visit to the UNC football program next month.
Ferguson is a six-foot cornerback from Gainesville, Georgia. According to 247Sports, he is a three-star cornerback but has a four-star composite rating, ranking as the 24th-best cornerback in the class of 2024. ESPN Recruiting has Ferguson as a four-star as well.
This visit may surprise those who follow college football recruiting and the UNC football program closely. Ferguson committed to the LSU program in September of 2022. However, the lack of depth (and production) on the defensive side of the ball for UNC football may have Ferguson reconsidering his decision, who has said that he is keeping his options open despite being committed to the Tigers.
Mack Brown and the UNC football program have been recruiting Ferguson heavily even after his commitment. In March, Ferguson went on a tour of visiting schools, including a visit to LSU and a visit to Chapel Hill. Now, it appears he would like to re-visit the UNC football program for a weekend as he will be visiting from June 23 thru June 25.
Other schools that are involved in Ferguson recruitment are Arkansas, Auburn, Michigan, and Oregon. Pursuing Ferguson after his commitment to LSU is showing him other schools are still interested, and if for any reason LSU were to let up on their recruitment, anyone could slide in and flip the talented four-star corner to their program.
LSU has talent and depth on the defensive side of the ball that the UNC football program doesn’t have when recruiting for the 2024 class. Could that impact Ferguson? Can Mack Brown add talent to a secondary lacking depth?
