North Carolina Tar Heel Legends Play in Wells Fargo Pro-Am Tournament

On Wednesday, former UNC Basketball coach Roy Williams and current UNC Football coach Mack Brown participated in the 2023 Wells Fargo Pro-Am Tournament.
All North Carolina Tar Heel fans know how much former UNC basketball coach Roy Williams loves to play golf. On Wednesday, the former Tar Heel legend spent the day at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina with another Tar Heel legend at the Wells Fargo Pro-Amateur tournament.
Williams and current UNC football head coach Mack Brown took to the links on Wednesday as part of the Pro-Am tournament that consisted of 52 total teams, including two PGA Tour Professionals, who competed in a One Best Ball Net Tournament format.
It appears the two Tar Heel legends also teamed up with current Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper for the day.
Plenty of us would love to be a fly on the wall (or golf bag so to speak) for some of those conversations between that group. With the NFL draft wrapping up, we can only imagine what the football talk around the draft between Tepper and Brown consisted of, especially with Brown being the head coach of one of the potential top-five picks in next year’s 2024 draft, Drake Maye.
However, it is unlikely the Panthers will draft Maye given the fact they traded up in the 2023 NFL Draft to take Bryce Young at No. 1 overall. The UNC football program also lost an offensive assistant coach to the Panthers franchise this past off-season.
Mike Kaye with the Charlotte Observer reported from the Panthers’ point of view on the pro-am with Tepper in attendance that included some quality quotes from Brown. Tar Heel fans can view that article here. According to Kaye, the trio of Williams, Brown, and Tepper trio shot 12-under par in Wednesday’s Pro-Am session.
