North Carolina Tar Heels Week Preview: May 1 – May 7
By Jordan Falls
Previewing the upcoming week for North Carolina Tar Heels Athletics for the week of May 1, 2023, thru May 7, 2023.
We’ve approached the month of May and the time of year when most UNC athletic teams are nearing the end of their regular season or already entering postseason play.
Baseball – The Diamond Heels are coming off a series win at Virginia Tech and now will head into the mid-week with two games vs in-state, top-15 opponents. Carolina will host No. 13 Campbell at The Bosh on Tuesday at 6 PM on ACC Network Extra. Following that game, the Tar Heels will travel to Greenville to face No. 14 East Carolina on Wednesday at 5 PM on ESPN+.
Carolina needs some wins to bolster an NCAA tournament resume that is lacking good wins and has the opportunity to pick those up this week before heading into the bye week for final exams.
Men’s Lacrosse – The Tar Heels will host Notre Dame on Saturday at 12 PM for Senior Day. Carolina will look to avenge an earlier 16-9 loss to the Fighting Irish a few weeks ago and stay above .500 on the season. The game can be found on ACC Network.
Men’s Tennis – The Tar Heels earned the no. 16 overall seed and will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament this weekend in Chapel Hill. Carolina finished the regular season 17-8 and 9-3 in the ACC. The Tar Heels will face Drake on Saturday at 1 PM following the other first-round matchup between Utah and Old Dominion. The winners of each matchup will meet on Sunday at 2 PM to advance to the Round of 16. The match can be watched online at www.goheels.com.
Women’s Tennis – Carolina enters the NCAA Tournament 29-1 and 13-0 in the ACC regular season, their one loss coming in the postseason ACC Tournament Championship game to rival NC State. The Tar Heels earned the no. 1 overall seed and will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament in Chapel Hill on Friday and Saturday this weekend.
Carolina will face Charleston Southern on Friday and the winner of that matchup will face the winner of South Carolina and Old Dominion on Saturday. Times for both matches are all TBA. Stay tuned to www.goheels.com for updates.
