The UNC women’s lacrosse team advanced to the ACC Championship game with a dominant 15-9 win over no. 2 seed Syracuse on Friday afternoon.

After beating No. 6 seed Clemson in the ACC quarterfinal round on Wednesday 16-6, the No. 3 seed Tar Heels advanced to the semifinal round for a rematch with no. 2 seed Syracuse. The Orange got the better of Jenny Levy’s squad with a 14-12 win almost two weeks ago on April 15th in Chapel Hill on Senior Day.

The Tar Heels came out firing on all cylinders on Friday in the ACC Tournament though and were ready for the no. 1 team in the country this time around. Carolina scored early and often, scoring their first goal just 36 seconds into the game. The Tar Heels were up 8-0 before Syracuse even scored their first goal.

Carolina was dominant offensively scoring ten goals in the first half and holding one of the best offenses in the country to only two goals and led 10-2 at the half.

Freshman superstar Caroline Godine had a great day, scoring a career-high six goals including her final goal with one second remaining on the shot clock to put the Tar Heels up 15-7 with 6:40 left in the game. Godine is already showing she is going to be an impactful player for Jenny Levy and the UNC women’s lacrosse program for the next several years to come.

Another Tar Heel that had a great offensive day was Marissa White, who leads the teams in goals on the season, had three goals. Alecia Nicholas also was phenomenal in the net and contributed to limiting the Syracuse offense with 11 saves. Carolina held off a second-half Syracuse push to secure a 15-9 win to advance to the championship game.

Carolina will be looking to win their seventh straight ACC Championship on Sunday vs No. 1 seed Boston College. The Tar Heels and Eagles will face off at 12:00 PM in Charlotte on the ACC Network.
