UNC Football: In-state wide receiver releases top seven schools
By Jordan Falls
The UNC football program made the top seven cut for in-state wide receiver, Channing Goodwin from Charlotte, North Carolina.
According to his Twitter page, Channing Goodwin has released the top seven schools he is deciding on, and the UNC football program made the cut.
Goodwin is from Providence Day High School in Charlotte, NC. According to 247Sports, he is a four-star prospect and the 7th ranked prospect in the state of North Carolina for the class of 2024. Goodwin is a six-foot-one wide receiver with offers from several schools.
Other schools in Goodwin’s top seven are ACC rivals, Wake Forest, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, and Michigan. The Wolverines are the favorite to earn a commitment from Goodwin according to 247Sports where they have four different crystal ball predictions for Goodwin to end up in Ann Arbor.
Head Coach Mack Brown has forever discussed recruiting the state of North Carolina and keeping the top talent in the state to come to Chapel Hill. If Mack really does want to keep talent in the state, landing a commitment from Goodwin would be a step in the right direction. The UNC football program under Mack has the slogan of “The Best in Carolina, Play for Carolina!” it would be great for fans and the program for Goodwin to stay in the state for the Tar Heels.
Not only would a commitment be great for in-state recruiting, but it would also be important in winning recruiting battles against conference and cross-border rivals (such as South Carolina and NC State).
Looking ahead, the wide receiver core in Chapel Hill is getting older and will be relying on mostly juniors in 2023, meaning the 2024 class will be very upperclassman-led. Goodwin would be the first wide-receiver commit for the class of 2024.
Goodwin hasn’t announced a commitment date as of the release of his top schools, but he is certainly a recruit that we will keep our eye on.
