Former UNC Basketball player Will Shaver has announced where he will continue his college basketball career for the 2023-24 season.

Will Shaver was among the many UNC basketball players who entered the transfer portal at the end of the 2022-2023 basketball season. After being in contact with several schools, Shaver has announced where he will continue his playing career.

Shaver will leave the Atlantic Coast Conference to go to the Missouri Valley Conference and join the Belmont Bruins. The Bruins have been one of the mid-majors known to have success on the basketball court.

The Bruins haven’t made the NCAA Tournament since joining the Missouri Valley Conference after leaving the Ohio Valley Conference in 2021-2022. Their last NCAA Tournament appearance came in 2019, however, they won the automatic bid in 2020 for the Ohio Valley Conference before the COVID cancellation happened.

Shaver will be looking to get more playing time at Belmont than he did in Chapel Hill for the Tar Heels. He only saw action in three games and played a total of six minutes during his freshman season before suffering a broken foot in December.

Unlike other players who transferred out of Carolina because of playing time, this one seemed more like a mutual decision on both sides since the lack of playing time for Shaver was likely caused in large part due to his injury. Shaver originally enrolled during the 2021-2022 season in the middle of the season. He will be a rising sophomore for the Bruins.

As with all former Tar Heels, we wish Shaver the best of luck in his future career!
