The UNC Baseball team picked up another mid-week win in dominant fashion on Tuesday vs Queens University from Charlotte, North Carolina.

The UNC baseball program gave fans something to be excited about from the first pitch of Tuesday’s night against Queens University of Charlotte at The Bosh. The Diamond Heels scored seven runs in the first inning thanks to a couple of walks and four doubles.

Another double in the third inning led to a three-run home run by Patrick Alvarez giving the Tar Heels a 10-0 lead after just three innings of baseball. Alvarez led the team in RBIs with four on the evening and was 2-4 at the plate. The Diamond Heels slowed down on offense after their blistering start and didn’t score in the final five innings of the game.

It was a full bullpen staff day on Tuesday for the Tar Heels as they used eleven pitchers. Freshman pitcher Cameron Padgett went the farthest for the Diamond Heels pitching two innings and earning the win. Meanwhile, Kevin Eaise came in with two outs in the ninth to earn the save, his fourth on the season.

We have criticized the bullpen and the pitching staff for giving up runs and not helping the offense out enough and on the surface it would appear they did it again on Tuesday. However, the Tar Heels gave up six runs over the final four innings of the game, but only two of those six runs were earned runs. The Diamond Heels committed three errors that led to the other four runs that were scored, but the bullpen was able to hold on for the 10-6 win.

Next up for UNC baseball is a big home series at The Bosh with the Miami Hurricanes beginning tonight at 7 PM. You can watch the game on ACC Network. Game two of the series was originally scheduled for 6 PM but has recently been moved to 7 PM for TV purposes as the game will be on ESPN2.

Game three of the series will be at 12 PM on Saturday prior to the UNC football spring game. The Tar Heels will be looking for their fifth straight ACC series win.
