The UNC Basketball program picked up a second transfer in the 2023 off-season on Tuesday as they look to rebuild the roster.

Hubert Davis and his staff took another step in rebuilding the UNC Basketball roster for next season by signing another transfer.

Joe Tipton with On3Sports was first on the report that Jae’lyn Withers committed to North Carolina. This will be the second pick-up for Coach Davis and the UNC Basketball program this off-season. The first transfer to commit to UNC was Paxson Wojcik.

UNC had six open scholarship roster spots heading into the off-season after multiple departures due to the transfer portal and graduation. Now, UNC has replaced two of those six spots with Withers and Wojcik.

Withers is a transfer from inside the ACC and will bring the experience of playing in the conference.  Coach Davis is clearly trying to improve the three-point shooting on a team that was worst in the ACC last season. Withers has shot 34.8% from three during his career, but he shot an impressive 41.7% last season.

Withers is a North Carolina native from Charlotte. He will be entering his senior season next year and has two years of eligibility remaining (thanks to the COVID year). Coach Davis has been adamant about adding bench depth, and Withers is certainly someone who can provide that.

With four remaining scholarships open for 2023-2024, we are still unsure of what the roster will look like and if Withers will step into a starting role or bench role. There has been speculation another commitment could be on the horizon for UNC basketball, but this is certainly a step in the right direction to bouncing back from a tough season in 2022-2023.
