The UNC Basketball program received an update regarding their 2023-2024 non-conference portion of the schedule on Monday afternoon.

According to Jon Rothstein, UNC Basketball learned one of its opponents for the 2023-2024 campaign.

The Tar Heels will face the Oklahoma Sooners in the 2023 Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte, North Carolina. Meanwhile, in the other matchup, the Michigan Wolverines will face the Florida Gators.

In the 2022 inaugural matchup of the Jumpman Invitational, Carolina beat Michigan 80-76 and Oklahoma beat Florida 62-53. The Invitational was originally created with the four schools involved who were the first Jumpman-branded schools.

Knowing how much off-season movement is possible among transfers and reclassifications, we really don’t know what the 2023-2024 Sooners or Tar Heels will look like at the moment, so the matchup is unpredictable for the time being. Regardless, it will be another fun event in Charlotte which is home to many Tar Heel fans.

With the announcement of the 2023 matchups being Carolina-Oklahoma and Michigan-Florida, the process of elimination tells us that the 2024 matchups will be Carolina-Florida and Oklahoma-Michigan.

Knowing that the Tar Heels had played Michigan last season pretty much ruled out the fact that UNC would see the Wolverines again in 2023, but there was always some curiosity with the fanbase because of the recent transfer of Caleb Love to Michigan and if his transfer would impact the pairings of the invitational. This announcement ruled that out, however, the UNC basketball program could still see the former Tar Heel and the Wolverines in another pre-season tournament during the Battle 4 Atlantis.

The UNC women’s basketball program will also be participating in the Jumpman Invitational (and we can assume they will also see Oklahoma in 2023-2024 since they had the same matchup as the UNC men in 2022-2023). Last year, the women played the night before the men.
