North Carolina Tar Heels Week in Review: April 3 – April 9
By Jordan Falls
A recap of the previous week for North Carolina Tar Heels Athletics for the week of April 3, 2023, thru April 9, 2023.
Baseball – The Diamond Heels began their week in Charlotte with a neutral site matchup against #6 South Carolina in their annual Battle of the Carolinas matchup. The Tar Heels lost to the Gamecocks 5-0 after being unable to get the bats going. A full game recap can be found here.
The Heels then traveled south to Atlanta to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in a three-game series where the Diamond Heels would take two out of three and win their fourth straight ACC series. A detailed recap for that series can be found here.
Men’s Tennis – Having only one match this week, the Tar Heels lost to rival Duke 5-2 at home. UNC falls to 15-7 overall and 7-3 in the ACC and in fifth place.
Women’s Tennis – The #1 Tar Heels continued their undefeated season with an impressive win on Thursday afternoon in Chapel Hill, defeating #7, and arch-rival, NC State with a 7-0 sweep. Carolina kept that momentum going forward by beating Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon 4-0. UNC remains undefeated at 26-0 and 12-0 in the ACC.
Men’s Lacrosse – #10 Carolina had a tough home top-10 matchup against the #3 Virginia Cavaliers on Friday night. After a 13-day hiatus from play, and coming into the game-winning three straight, the Tar Heels hoped to keep that momentum going forward. However, the Cavaliers had other things in mind. Jumping in front early and never looking back, Virginia beat the Tar Heels 19-12.
Women’s Lacrosse – After losing to Notre Dame last weekend, the Tar Heels had fallen to #5 in the latest national rankings. They faced the Pittsburgh Panthers on Friday afternoon and bounced back with a 16-3 win over the Panthers. Marissa White continued to be impressive at scoring during her freshman season. She scored a career-high, six goals, and will certainly be a name to watch for the Tar Heels over the next several seasons. UNC is still in a position to win the ACC sitting at 6-1 in the conference and one game out of first place.
