The UNC Baseball team bounced back from a mid-week loss to no. 6 South Carolina by taking two out of three from ACC Coastal Division foe Georgia Tech.

Despite some dreadful weather in the expected forecast for the weekend, UNC Baseball was able to get their three games played in Atlanta versus Georgia Tech, taking two out of three and winning their fourth straight ACC series.

Due to it being Easter weekend, the series was originally scheduled to be played Thursday-Friday-Saturday instead of the traditional Friday-Saturday-Sunday. However, before Thursday’s game began, it was announced that there would be a doubleheader played on Friday due to expected inclement weather late Friday night and into Saturday.

After failing to score a run in Charlotte vs the Gamecocks in the mid-week game, the Tar Heels scored 8 on the Yellow Jackets while only allowing 1 run. Max Carlson was impressive getting the start in game one and went 7 innings, allowing only 5 hits and striking out 8.

It feels like this is a weekly occurrence at this point with a Tar Heel outfielder making a Sportscenter Top10 highlight-reel catch. This time, in game one, it was Vance Honeycutt, again.

The Diamond Heels racked up 12 hits, with nine different players recording a hit and five different players recording an RBI. It was a very balanced offensive scoring night for a team that needed to get back on track and take game one of the series.

On Friday morning, in game two of the series (and game one of the doubleheader), the Tar Heels continued the offensive onslaught. UNC scored 10 runs and beat the Yellow Jackets 10-6. Officially taking the series. Hunter Stokely was impressive in this one. He was 4-for-5 at the plate, with three RBIs.

In game three, and looking for the series sweep, the Tar Heels jumped on top of the Jackets again early, taking a 2-0 lead through 2 innings. The Yellow Jackets answered and took the lead in the bottom of the third inning on a three-run home run followed up by a sacrifice fly and an RBI single giving Georgia Tech a 5-2 lead. The Tar Heels were never able to get back in game three and lost 8-4.

UNC Baseball will return to the diamond at The Bosh on Tuesday for a nine-game homestand. Up first will be new NCAA Division 1 school, Queens (N.C.) on Tuesday at 6 PM. After that follows another big three-game ACC series with coastal division rival Miami on Friday-Saturday-Sunday. We will cover that upcoming series in our weekly preview on Monday.

At the time of the Tar Heels-Yellow Jackets series ending, the Diamond Heels currently sit in third place in the ACC at 8-5. Miami and Virginia are right ahead of the Tar Heels at 8-4 and the Cavaliers and Hurricanes begin a three-game series on Friday night.
