The UNC Basketball program has been in contact with a player they previously recruited and one of the top players in the transfer portal.

Inside Carolina reported on Thursday afternoon that the UNC Basketball program and head coach Hubert Davis has been in contact with a former class of 2021 recruit and current Stanford transfer, Harrison Ingram.

Ingram was ranked by 247Sports as a five-star prospect coming out of high school in 2021 and the no. 6 ranked small forward in his class. He was down to Stanford and Carolina, among others, before choosing former Tar Heel assistant, and current Stanford head coach, Jerrod Haase and the Cardinal over the Tar Heels.

Harrison Ingram entered the portal on Tuesday and in just two days, has had multiple conversations with the Tar Heels according to InsideCarolina sources.

Ingram is the one player in the transfer portal at the moment that makes the most sense for Coach Davis and his staff to be pursuing. He is a six-foot-seven small forward who can play on the wing and also has the ability to be versatile. The Tar Heels currently have guards and big men, but there are no wing players on the current roster.

Adding a player like Ingram who can bring that versatility is huge to a roster that is in the midst of rebuilding after having six players enter the transfer portal and losing two more to graduation. Ingram averaged 29.4 minutes per game at Stanford and scored 10.5 points while bringing in 6.2 rebounds.

He wasn’t a great three-point shooter, averaging 31.6%, but that can possibly be developed over time in Chapel Hill. Other schools will be contacting a high-profile name such as Ingram, but the Tar Heels being in the conversation this early is something to be excited about. Many fans were disappointed when he chose Stanford over UNC during his recruitment and would love to have him join the 2023-2024 Tar Heels!
