UNC Basketball: Top 2024 commit schedules Chapel Hill visit
By Jordan Falls
Current UNC Basketball 2024 commit Ian Jackson is scheduled to visit North Carolina during his spring break in the coming week.
According to David Sisk with Rivals, the top UNC Basketball recruit for the class of 2024, Ian Jackson, is scheduled to spend some time with the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill.
This is interesting for several reasons. Most notably, other programs, mainly St. John’s, have heavily pursued Jackson in an attempt to get him to decommit from North Carolina. Through all of that, Jackson has remained committed to head coach Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels.
It isn’t often that a recruit who is already committed to a program takes time to visit after committing. Is Jackson visiting UNC under conditions of Coach Davis and his staff still pursuing him and recruiting him, despite the verbal commitment they received back in January?
Another reason Jackson could be visiting would be the idea of reclassification. Jackson spoke on the topic of reclassification last weekend and didn’t rule it out of being a possibility. Naturally, he said the plan is to stay in the 2024 class. However, he is taking classes that will allow him to reclassify if he chooses to do so.
Could that be the reason Jackson is visiting Chapel Hill? It is certainly a possibility. Coach Davis has five scholarship spots to fill.
One of the top players in the transfer portal, LJ Cryer, released a list of schools that he heard from and Carolina was not on that list. Cryer said he wanted to play point guard at his next stop. At the moment, the Tar Heels could use a talented point guard like Cryer to play alongside RJ Davis. If UNC didn’t reach out to Cryer, could something else be in the works?
There’s been discussion about top 2024 point guard Elliott Cadeau reclassifying. Could we see Jackson and Cadeau team up in 2023 instead of 2024?
