One of the former UNC Basketball players, Justin McKoy, has committed to a team far away from home for the 2023-2024 basketball season.

Per his Twitter page on Tuesday afternoon, Justin McKoy has committed to the University of Hawai’i for the 2023-2024 basketball season.

The Raleigh, North Carolina native will use his final year of collegiate eligibility to play more than 4,700 miles from home at the University of Hawai’i.

McKoy began his career at the University of Virginia spending two seasons with the Cavaliers. He then transferred to North Carolina to join Hubert Davis’ program. However, during his four years in the ACC between the Cavaliers and the Tar Heels, he only averaged 7.9 minutes per game and 1.8 points per game.

McKoy never seemed to get the opportunities in the ACC that he thought he deserved which led to him being one of several Tar Heels that entered the transfer portal after the end of the 2022-2023 season.

The Rainbow Warriors went 22-11 last season. McKoy hopes to be a nice addition to the mid-major program who can use someone with his experience from the power-five level, especially in a conference like the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Rainbow Warriors haven’t been to the NCAA Tournament since 2016 and will be looking to make a return in 2023-2024.

Granted, even if McKoy didn’t see much game action in the ACC, he’s practiced against some of the best competition in the country for four seasons. Including being part of a team that went to the National Championship game in 2021-2022.

While it didn’t work out in Chapel Hill, best of luck to McKoy as he travels out to the Pacific for next season.
