The UNC Basketball program is focused on the 2023-2024 season, but they have already agreed to participate in the 2024 Maui Jim Maui Invitational.
While the focus is on rebounding from the 2022-2023 season for UNC Basketball, they have been already been announced as part of a classic pre-season tournament for the 2024-2025 season.

The Tar Heels will be heading back to Maui in 2024 for the most celebrated pre-season tournament in college basketball. UNC will be joined by Auburn, Colorado, Dayton, Iowa State, Memphis, Michigan State, and UConn.
Since Roy Williams returned to UNC in 2003, he placed an emphasis on playing in the Maui Invitational once every four seasons starting in 2004. The Tar Heels under third-year head coach Hubert Davis seem to be continuing that tradition. This will be the first appearance for Carolina in Maui since 2020.
This will be the ninth time that the UNC Basketball program has participated in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. The Tar Heels have made the Maui Invitational Championship game in seven of their current eight appearances playing in the tournament. Carolina has won the tournament four times in 1999, 2004, 2008, and 2016. The three most recent times that they have won the tournament, Carolina has gone on to win the National Championship in those same seasons. The other three times that Carolina has participated in the title game were in 1989, 1995, and 2020.
Obviously, most of the focus is on 2023-2024 for the coaching staff and fans, but the 2024-2025 season has a lot to be excited for and now we can add participating in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational to the pre-season expectations (and a fun trip to Carolina fans to make around Thanksgiving!). North Carolina currently holds the no. 1 overall recruiting class in the country for 2024, including Ian Jackson and Elliott Cadeau.
