The UNC Football program added an offensive quality control coach to their staff with a popular last name that many college football fans will recognize.

Former UNC Quarterback Manny Miles as joined Mack Brown’s staff as an offensive quality control coach this week.

Yes, that’s the son of former college football National Champion coach, Les Miles. Manny was a walk-on, backup quarterback within the UNC Football program during his time in Chapel Hill from 2015-2018.

Miles didn’t play much outside of being the placeholder on all field goals in 2017 and he received playing time in 2018 in a non-conference game vs Western Carolina, throwing for 55 yards and a touchdown while completing 3-5 passes. He left UNC to play his senior season of eligibility for his dad, Les, at the University of Kansas. He saw action in five games and passed for 9-17 for 114 yards and a touchdown.

After finishing his collegiate career, he joined the Arkansas State staff as a graduate assistant for the offensive side of the ball under former Tennessee head coach Butch Jones. Hopefully, Miles brings great knowledge from his time at Arkansas State (and from of course a National Championship coach in his dad, Les) to Chapel Hill.

We will see how these new staff additions play out for the Tar Heel offense over time. While the offense has had much success statically, fans have expressed frustrations that were under previous offensive coordinator Phil Longo due to the lack of consistency and production inside the red zone.

Coach Mack Brown has made several staff changes across the board, but specifically on that side of the ball as well. Adding Chip Lindsey as the new offensive coordinator, Randy Clements to coach the offensive line, and Freddie Kitchens for the tight ends.
