UNC Women’s Basketball: Kennedy Todd-Williams Commits to Ole Miss
By Jordan Falls
Former UNC Women’s Basketball player Kennedy Todd-Williams has found a new home in Oxford, Mississippi with the University of Mississippi.
When she entered the transfer portal, the UNC Women’s Basketball team lost a key piece of their program from the last three seasons in Kennedy Todd-Williams last week. Now less than a week later, Todd-Williams has found herself a new home after a recent visit to Ole Miss.
Ole Miss head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin has been a coach who has hit the portal hard the last two seasons. She had six transfers for the 2022-2023 season that helped lead the program to a Sweet Sixteen appearance, including knocking off no. 1 seed Stanford.
She also made comments regarding the transfer portal at a postgame press conference according to ESPN.
"“Anyone who’s whining about it is going to be out of business in two years. You better evolve or you’re gone. The portal is part of life, baby. I just embrace it.”"
McPhee-McCuin is certainly embracing the portal by landing one of the top five players in the portal in Todd-Williams. Todd-Williams was part of what was presumed to be a “big three” in Chapel Hill between Deja Kelly, Alyssa Ustby, and herself.
That core group has helped Coach Courtney Banghart get UNC Women’s basketball back on the map and relatively regionally in the conference and nationally within the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels made a run into the Sweet Sixteen in 2022 and were competitive all season ranking at the top of the nation for most wins against top 25 teams.
While Ole Miss is gaining a valuable player, the Tar Heels are losing one. This will mean Coach Banghart and her staff will be hitting the transfer portal looking for a replacement. We will certainly miss seeing KTW in Carolina blue next season.
