The UNC Basketball program has reached out to transfer guard Dalton Knecht from Northern Colorado.

One of the top players currently in the transfer portal has now heard from the UNC basketball program in recent days.

Hubert Davis and his staff have contacted Dalton Knecht along with plenty of other schools. Knecht is a guard with a bigger build that, like the other players Coach Davis is targeting, has had success shooting from beyond the arc.

Knecht has one season of eligibility remaining and will be going into his fifth season. He spent his first two seasons at a junior college where he was named a first-team NJCAA All-American during his sophomore season. During his freshman season, he shot 45% from beyond the arc.

Knecht transferred to Northern Colorado for his junior and senior seasons where he had success scoring, especially during his senior season. Knecht averaged 20.2 points last season and shot 38.1% from the three-point line, and has shot 37.3% during his two seasons at Northern Colorado.

However, it’s important to note in two seasons, he has taken 335 threes, making 125 of them. He’s most definitely a volume shooter who makes at a good rate. He also was able to get to the free throw line 131 times last season.

Knecht is a 6-foot-6 guard who could help fill the size on the wing that Tar Heels are losing from Leaky Black graduating and hopefully bring in the offensive needs that the Carolina most certainly needs. He is highly regarded by several people as one of the best players in the portal despite the fact that he spent his first two seasons at a junior college and his most recent two at a mid-major such as Northern Colorado.

With five open scholarships at the moment for 2023-2024, Knecht could certainly be a good addition to Coach Davis and his program. We will continue to track North Carolina’s involvement in Knecht’s recruitment.
