UNC Basketball is losing another guard as Caleb Love announced he is entering the transfer portal on Monday afternoon.

Many UNC basketball fans have awaited the decision of Caleb Love and what it might mean for the future of UNC Basketball. Well now, the time has come for Love to make his decision.

Love announced on Monday afternoon that he would indeed be entering the transfer portal. Love came to North Carolina as a highly-rated five-star recruit ranked No. 14 overall in the class of 2020.

Love has spent three seasons in Chapel Hill averaging 32.8 minutes per game during his time, including a career-high 35.8 minutes last season. He averaged a career-high 16.7 points per game as a junior.

Unfortunately, it never seemed like Carolina fans got to see the best version of Caleb Love consistently. It always felt like he was on or off, and when he was on, he was really good. He was a 31.7% three-point shooter during his time as a Tar Heel.

For all the negative that seemed to surround Caleb during his time as a Tar Heel, he gave Carolina fans everywhere memories for a lifetime last March as a sophomore. He was part of the core group of guys that made a memorable run in the NCAA Tournament. He scored 30 in the Sweet Sixteen game vs UCLA to send Carolina to the Elite Eight while shooting 6-13 from beyond the arc.

And of course, we will never forget what he did in the Final Four last year against that team from down the road.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, it just didn’t work out in Chapel Hill for Love. Carolina now has six open scholarship spots for the 2023-2024 season and plenty of holes to fill. It will be up to Hubert Davis and his staff to hit the transfer portal and recruiting trail to do so.

Caleb – Thank you for your time in Chapel Hill. We wish you the best!
