UNC Basketball reaches out to in-conference Transfer
By Jordan Falls
UNC Basketball has been very active in the portal, now reaching out to forward Jae’Lyn Withers from Louisville.
The UNC Basketball program has several roster spots to fill this off-season in preparation for the 2023-2024 season. Louisville forward, Jae’Lyn Withers from Charlotte, North Carolina has now entered the transfer portal and he has heard from several power six programs.
Now, the Tar Heels have joined those group of teams that have reached out to the former ACC All-Freshman team forward.
Withers was a four-star recruit coming out of high school according to 247Sports. He spent three years with the Cardinals playing 81 games and starting in 64. He averaged 22.8 minutes per game. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
It’s no secret that Hubert Davis wants to add three-point shooters to his roster. Withers was 40-96 (41.7%) his junior season with the Cardinals. While he didn’t attempt near as many three’s as RJ Davis or Caleb Love, his percentage is certainly much better.
In his career vs UNC, he hasn’t had great outings. He has played 4 games against the Tar Heels, averaging 27 minutes per game and 8.5 points per game. He has shot 14-33 (42.4%) from the field and 4-14 (28.5%) from beyond the arc with 25 rebounds.
While his career outings aren’t great, if Withers can bring the three point shooting he had in 2022-2023 to the Tar Heels, that would certainly provide a huge boost for the roster in 2023-24. We will continue to follow the recruitment of Withers if the Tar Heels choose to pursue him further.
