UNC Basketball: Armando Bacot Returning for fifth season
By Jordan Falls
The UNC Basketball program received some good news on Wednesday, when All-American big man, Armando Bacot announced he was returning for the 2023-2024 season.
Another UNC Basketball announcement came on Wednesday afternoon. This time, it was some good news for the Tar Heels who needed it after having several players enter the transfer portal.
Bacot will be returning for his fifth season in Chapel Hill and using his extra year of eligibility (COVID year). The big man earned third-team All-American honors nationally last season. Bacot set two UNC records last season breaking Billy Cunningham’s record for most double-doubles in a career and breaking Tyler Hansbrough’s all-time career rebounding record.
By returning for another season, it is almost a guarantee he will shatter both of those records by a wide margin. Bacot will have a legitimate shot at breaking Tim Duncan’s ACC all-time rebounding record as he is just 235 rebounds behind him in that category.
While last season didn’t go the way anyone wanted it to, it appears Armando is ready to come back for a fifth season and right the ship with the UNC Basketball program. Assuming he can get, and stay healthy, this could be huge for getting a core lineup with experience built around him. Bacot has battled several ankle injuries during his career, including most recently in the 2023 ACC Tournament.
