UNC Basketball picked up another key win last night at Florida State 77-66. Could fifth-year senior Leaky Black be the one to lead them?

From the beginning of the season, there has been a narrative that this UNC Basketball team lacks a vocal leader. When they all committed to coming back for one more run, I don’t know if anyone thought leadership or experience in the big moments would be an issue.

Throughout this up-and-down season, there have been moments and players that appeared to possibly emerge. RJ Davis was called the most important player for a while. Armando Bacot has been the one constant all season. Pete Nance was even mentioned as a key piece of this year’s run.

So what about Leaky Black?

We all knew he was going to bring the defensive identity that he found last year. The numbers whenever he guards the other team’s best player speak for themself. This year though, we have started to see the offense too. Teams have left Leaky open and more often than not, he is starting to make them pay. From Ross Martin on Twitter.

Since his freshman year, Black was never the focus of the offense. His ability to play all 5 positions on the floor always makes him an asset too important to not have on the court. Scouting being what it is and with the emergence of Bacot, teams have elected to leave Black open for double and triple teams in the post.

Could Black be the most important key for this team to achieve their goals of returning? Could the emergence of his offensive game and shooting threat take pressure off of others? Based on what we witnessed last night, I think the answer is yes.

He doesn’t have to be the one, but his emergence offensively would be a missing piece for this team.
