UNC Basketball: Random Observations Notre Dame Win
By Aaron Conrad
UNC Basketball gets a much-needed win versus Notre Dame by a final 63-59. These are some of the random observations from the game.
Well, it wasn’t pretty and almost feels like a loss but the UNC basketball program leaves Notre Dame with a win. They are all necessary now so you take the win and look ahead to another critical game on Saturday versus Virginia.
The first half was brutal. UNC finished the half with no assists and no made three-pointers. While I have said multiple times in these observations that they have not used the bench, there was some effort made to get guys in.
The rotations seem to be random and undefined.
This team simply cannot shoot. You have to feel for Armando Bacot, he is being double and triple-teamed on every possession. Teams are begging the guards to shoot the ball.
That makes the lack of minutes for Tyler Nickel that much more disappointing. We’re not in practice but from the armchair perspective, I just don’t understand it. Yes, Nickel is not going to be a lockdown defender but who on this team not named Leaky Black is? You have to think he could knock down some shots if given the space and time to get warm. Not one to quote my own tweet but I share this for the purposes of the video.
It was pointed out that Dunn actually didn’t take a bad shot, but they could have had a better one. His feet were set, hands ready and he was wide open. I’d like to see what he could do with more playing time.
Last note on Nickel, he was inserted with 1:49 left in the first half and did not play in the second half.
Survive and advance is the name of the game from now on friends.
