UNC Basketball: Chicago Bulls Waive Tony Bradley
The writing has been on the wall all season long for former UNC basketball big man Tony Bradley, as the veteran is without an NBA team.
With the Chicago Bulls this year, Tony Bradley has seen just 33 minutes across 12 separate appearances. Those brief stints mainly came at the end of blowout games, as it’s the least amount of playing time he’s seen since his first two seasons in the league.
The former UNC basketball standout is in his sixth season in the NBA. On Tuesday, Tony Bradley is expected to be waived to make room for point guard signing, Patrick Beverley, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
It’s a move that shouldn’t come as a surprise to many. If you’ve been keeping up with our “Heels in the Pros” weekly updates, Bradley has seen very minimal playing time. The 25-year-old averaged 10.0 minutes in 55 games last season with the Bulls. This season, the team failed to find any time for the veteran.
As far as his next move, he could go several different ways. An NBA team could certainly make a move for Bradley as a depth move, which would mark his fifth different team. The veteran could also head to the G League or overseas.
With Bradley, the Bulls had two former Tar Heels on their roster with Coby White also coming off the bench. White surprisingly stayed in Chicago through the trade deadline, as he continues to be a topic of rumors every NBA season.
Bradley was an integral part of the 2016-17 UNC team that won the NCAA Championship. He averaged 7.1 points and 5.1 rebounds across 14.6 minutes per contest in that year. Bradley was the team’s sixth man before he made a somewhat surprising decision to head to the NBA after just one season.
