UNC Baseball: Tar Heels Lose Opener to Seton Hall
By Aaron Conrad
UNC Baseball lost their season opener yesterday to Seton Hall by a final score of 10-8. The series continues today.
The number 12-ranked Tar Heels started the season off on the wrong foot on Friday. Seton Hall took game one of the three-game series 10-8. The Tar Heels trailed most of the game but were able to take the lead in the sixth inning 8-7. Seton Hall tacked on 3 runs for the final score and win.
Despite the loss to start the season, as reported by GoHeels.com, Head Coach Scott Forbes is confident in his team and how they hit the ball.
"“It’s the first game of the season, we’ve got 55 more regular season games, I thought we hit a ton of balls right on the nose, we just couldn’t find that hole. This might be good for us to lose the first game. If you don’t pitch and you’re not fundamentally sound, any team in college baseball can beat you. We had good at bats throughout and at the end of the day when you score eight runs, we expect to win at North Carolina.”"
Mac Horvath filled the box score going 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and his first home run of the season. He also had 3 rbi on the day.
Pre-season All-American Vance Honeycutt ended the 1-for-5.
Baseball is a very long season and yesterday was only game one. The attention now shifts to winning the series. Another great thing about baseball is that there is another chance to get back in the win column the very next day. The Tar Heels face Seton Hall at Boshamer Stadium again today at 2:00 pm.
