UNC Basketball: Random Observations Miami Loss
By Aaron Conrad
UNC Basketball once again underperformed and lost to a less talented Miami team on Monday night 80-72. These are my random observations.
If you thought UNC Basketball was back after the lightning-in-a-bottle win versus Clemson on Saturday, let me go ahead and say that they are not.
I saw a lot of people saying that “Miami was the better team.” They aren’t. North Carolina fans need to stop accepting the mediocrity of this team because they had a nice run late last season. That was last season and this team has too much talent to be where they are. That’s not just my opinion, it was the opinion of all the people that ranked them pre-season number one.
The reality is we don’t know how good this team can be because all we get is the same thing over and over and over again. We get the “Iron Four” with Pete Nance and some occasional Puff Johnson.
This team runs no offense. When is the last time you saw a point guard on this team call a play? I get that maybe Coach Hubert Davis is calling them. If he is, no one is listening. It is literally just 5 guys making it up out there.
It’s mid-February. The bench gets little to no action. Could it be the players on the floor are missing shots because they are tired? You have a bench, use it.
The entry of Seth Trimble and Tyler Nickel for offense and defense when you are down by 10 with less than 2 minutes to go is comical at this point. “Hey, you haven’t played the entire game but go get me a steal and a key shot.”
With Bacot in foul trouble in the second half, Jalen Washington didn’t even get a chance to take off his warmup jacket.
When you are ranked 306th in the nation in three-point percentage, you might want to work inside out. Again, Washington never even took off his warmup jacket.
When the announcers doing the game point out things that the coaching staff doesn’t seem to address, that is a problem.
Good luck in Raliegh this weekend.
