UNC Basketball: NBA Trade Deadline Tracker for former Heels

The NBA trade deadline came and went today at 3:00 pm. There were multiple UNC Basketball alumni that were a part of trades. 

The NBA trade deadline is always a lot of fun for fans. Big names and other players changing teams all with the intention to get better or tank before the end of the season. Three former UNC Basketball players found themselves changing teams before the deadline ended.

We covered it early this morning but maybe the biggest deal before the deadline was the Kevin Durant trade to the Phoenix Suns. In a late-night blockbuster trade, Cam Johnson was included in a package of players that included Jae Crowder, Mikal Bridges, and four unprotected first-round picks. The trade was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Fresh off a knee injury and only 3 games played, Danny Green has been traded to the Houston Rockets as a part of a three-team deal with the Los Angelos Clippers, Houston Rockets, and Memphis Grizzlies. Also reported by Adrian Wojnarowski. 

Green was averaging just 3 points per game but again, is returning from a serious knee injury. He will potentially provide some veteran leadership to a young Houston team. Green has played for Cleveland, San Antonio, Toronto, Los Angelos, Philadelphia, and Memphis.

Lastly, Justin Jackson was sent to OKC in a package with draft picks for Mike Muscala. As reported by Shams Charania on Twitter.

This will be Jackon’s second time on OKC. He spent the 2020-2021 season with the Thunder and has also had stops in Sacramento, Dallas, Milwaukee, Boston, and Phoenix.

Of all the trades, the biggest by far was the Durant trace. Of the three former Tar Heels, Johnson might be in the best position to really do something with his career from here. The Nets are in rebuilding mode now and he could really help.
